Last night was the Senior Honors Assembly. Andy gowned Mason and then we sat for awards and college announcements. We were thrilled and surprised when Mason's name was called for the Alice Bryce and Joyce Briscoe Award for Excellence in English. (It came with a $100 check!) We were completely unprepared but fortunately, a friend happened to be filming and sent us the video. If anyone ever deserved this award, it is Mason. She began writing before she could write, filling notebooks with neat squiggles across the lines. In second grade, she won the Reading Rainbow Creative Writing Contest and her writing has been remarkable and exemplary ever since. I am so proud of this girl of ours!
I was trying to take a picture of Mason, but Mr. Evans, one of the teachers who helped choose her for the award, showed up in the picture as well!
