Snakes and Snails, Sugar and Spice???

Okay, so here's what you learn when you have both genders of children living under your roof: that they really are different and that they really do gravitate towards gender- specific toys. Let's face it. When Dylan arrived, we had lots of pink, doll houses, baby dolls, dress-up gowns, polly pockets, etc.-- all chosen by the girls over the years. They did have a rug with a road pattern on it and a few little cars. What do you think Dylan is attracted to? The cars and roads. Sure, every now and then he will run around in an Indian dress or make little doll house people talk to each other in loving tones, but usually, he can be found making "traffic jams" with his cars. Sometimes, the line-up is 130 cars long. He could do this for hours. On the other hand, while the girls will help him make his traffic jams, they can usually be found playing with an elaborate set-up of Polly Pockets who attend school, perform in plays, go to the movies, etc. Go figure. How fun it all is to observe!

First Haircut!

Today, Dylan had his first real haircut, other than me trying to snip it here and there. Honestly, we have been terrified to take him for fear of him being butchered, but he has had several bad hair days on a row and finally, we decided to bite the bullet. He was very cooperative and serious through the whole thing and very proud of himself after. The bangs are WAY too short but the sides and the back are very nice. I guess we will just have to wait for the bangs to grow out a bit! These are pictures of his haircut and one of him waiting for his turn.

Final Performance!

Yesterday was the final performance of "Sleeping Beauty". The kids all had such a good time, there were lots of teary eyes as they said their goodbyes. They did such a fantastic job and the play was so good that after seeing it 7 times, I still wish I could see it again!

Halloween!

Here are the costumes! Dylan was a dragon--(he is standing with his best buddy, Dylan, in Kindermusic class). Mason was American Girl Felicity and Hannah was Dorothy. It was an insane day, as Halloween always seems to be. We started with Kindermusic class at 9:30. Then, Hannah's class party was at 11:30 and Mason's was at 12:30. Poor Dylan, being the third child, had missed his nap by this time and could barely hold his eyes open. ( Those of you with more than one or two know how this goes--the third always has to nap on the go but the bright side is that you get a child who is very easy-going about where he naps and can fall asleep anywhere if necessary...) After school, a quick nap for Dylan and we were off to Daddy's office for several floors of trick-or-treating, followed by dinner out at Flying Star. Then, Mason had a performance at 7:00 and there was more neighborhood trick-or-treating after that! Crazy? Yes. But always fun!

Carving Pumpkins!

On Thursday, we carved our pumpkins! Mason's favorite part is the goop. Hannah likes to dig out the insides as well but in a more limited way, and Dylan would have nothing-- and I mean NOTHING--to do with it. (I kind of thought that would be his favorite part. ) This is the first year that Mason was given a large carving knife to carve her own. She made the kitty pumpkin and the face with the zig-zag mouth!
