Monsoon Time!

After 78 days without rain and parched, brown landscapes, we finally had a week of rain every day, sometimes lasting all through the night!

Happy 16th, Dylan (a day late)!

Yesterday was this boy’s 16th birthday. He is just as fun now as he was in the first picture—he is agreeable, almost always positive, light-hearted and good-natured. It is a joy to be around him, even when he is relentlessly plucking my arm or sending me capybara tiktoks…

All Night Drive

Mason and Jay were in the car behind us as we drove all night to Denver. They took these pictures. Fun fact: it was still daylight at 9:30pm!

Yellowstone!

We went to Yellowstone National Park in the middle of a steady rainfall that lasted all night and into the next day. In the morning, we went to see Old Faithful and explored the geysers, waterfalls, rivers, and forests. We saw bison (lots of babies), elk, deer, and even a mama and baby bear! Around 6:00 that night, we finally had a spot of cell phone reception to get the notice that we were supposed to evacuate Yellowstone by 5:00! The rains had caused historic flooding and roads were washed out. So—we packed our two cars and drove through the night to Denver.

Mason Smith, MSW!!!

This beautiful, kind, smart, empathetic girl of ours just graduated with her Master’s of Social Work degree from the University of Denver! We could not be more proud and excited to see what’s next. This was the longest graduation in the history of the world (at least it felt like it…so. many. names…), but after a nap or two and a couple of hours, they finally got to Mason M. Smith and it was ALL worth the wait!
