This Is What It Has Come To…

Andy and I skied with Dylan yesterday. He has gotten really good this year and hard to keep up with. He has almost no fear and all day endurance. He wanted to keep going after we had skied for several hours so we waited for him at the bottom. This is the picture he sent. To his mother. Who spent the rest of the time keeping an eye out for the rescue sled. Then, lo and behold, coming down the bunny hill where most of the runs end, I spot a snowboarder leaping and hopping like Tigger on his board and I knew before I really, actually knew that that was the boy. He explained that the run he took was a double black diamond through the trees with these cliff warnings so he knew it was the perfect run for him. Lord take the wheel!

21!!! She Is Legal!!

I really don’t approve of birthdays away from home, but what can you do? This fun little person turned 21 in Seattle yesterday. We had a family zoom call in the morning, then she had another with her high school friend group, then she made tee shirts with her friends at school.

Dylan and Cienna!

I stole these pictures that Dylan shared with me from his girlfriend’s birthday because I thought they were cute!

Ski Day

Dylan clearly wore himself out today, but he has become a real impressive snowboarder.  For our last run, he and I took a new black run together. I’m not afraid of much when it comes to skiing because I know I can get down most runs, but I’ll admit that I wondered how they would possibly get me down this run in the sled. It was intimidating— steep, narrow, long with big moguls, trees. But it was so cool to watch Dylan make his way down effortlessly, beautifully, with confident turns and speed. I guess I had not realized the level he had reached on his snowboard until that run.  I’m going to have a hard time keeping up with this boy! The picture with me is a selfie I took after I realized I survived. I meant to have the whole run behind me in the picture but I could not really tell what was in the shot. Also, a cute thing: a lone moose has made his way to the Santa Fe ski area and on all the signs as you get on the lift, it says "moose on the loose--please give him space"!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! We had a fun dinner last night with steak and scalloped potatoes, shrimp and grits (so yummy), spinach stuffed crescent rolls, strawberry, feta, bacon and balsamic spinach salad, and THE chocolate chip carrot cake! It has been such a wonderful break spent with many fun people—I’m not ready for it to end!
