Happy Graduation, Hannah!
Well, it certainly wasn't a traditional graduation ceremony, but it was much more fun! La Cueva had a parade graduation to celebrate the seniors! I feel like the only thing missing was pictures of Hannah with her friends in caps and gowns.
She didn't tell me that "Ass of 2020" was her superlative...

Looks Like I’m 50! 🤷♀️
Yesterday was a big one for me, the big 5-0. I woke up honestly feeling kind of meh about it all. But my wonderful and amazing hubby had worked tirelessly to make it special. He had spent time arranging a surprise Zoom birthday party with so many people from my life, past and present. I was completely surprised! He even let Miles and Dana’s family into our house, the first time anyone other than the five of us has been in here since mid-March! It was so much fun and my 50 year old self was tired at the end of the day! These 50 years have been a wonderful adventure and I have a beautiful family and amazing friends to show for it. In the end, it’s really all about loving heartily, being kind, having empathy, celebrating our differences and the love of family and friends.
Here are some pictures—my daily bike ride (this picture taken on my 50th birthday), fun with Snapchat filters, 50 balloons (two popped so I think we can still say I’m 48), cake and family.

Quarantine Pool!
Granny’s condo pool may not open this summer so we took matters into our own hands and set up our backyard pool.

The End of Middle School!
The boy (therefore, our whole family) is finished with middle school! He did an excellent job keeping up his academics while also hanging with the boys. We are super proud!

Denver Hike!
Mason comes home from Denver today, but she went on this beautiful hike yesterday with Jay’s family.

Piano Composition By Hannah and Wesley
Hannah and her friend, Wesley, composed and performed a song together (but from their own houses because of social distancing). It was written as a culmination of their four years playing in the La Cueva Orchestra and played at their virtual Orchestra banquet.

University of Washington! (Go, Huskies!)
It was a tough decision. Hannah was accepted at lots of schools and had finally brought it down to a decision between UCLA and University of Washington. She plans to study Neuroscience and ultimately chose the smaller Neuroscience program at Washington. She also felt more inclined to live in Seattle than LA. Unfortunately, we never had a chance to visit the campus so here’s hoping she likes it once she gets there, whenever that might be!

Graduation!
We are crazy proud of this little graduate of ours. In normal life, we would be eagerly waiting in line to watch her cross the stage right now. My heart is heavy to be missing that moment, but her future is so bright. What a pleasure it has been watching her get to this moment! The cords are for National Math Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, Hosa, Capstone, Top Ten, Orchestra, and they have not handed out the National English Honor Society ones yet.
A Visit From Principal Lee and the Bears Mascot!
Hannah got a visit at our house from the La Cueva principal and the mascot to congratulate her and give her a gold cord for tying for third place in her graduating class. It was such a special way for them to recognize the top ten when we can’t have a real Honors Assembly. The neatest part of it all is that Hannah never did it for the GPA, but because she loves learning and thrives in the AP classes.
