These Three!

The end of the semester is finally here!  Our almost 14 year old 8th grader above just finished her fifth semester in a row with a 4.0 grade point average which means that she has reached a goal she set for herself at the beginning of 6th grade.  Five consecutive semesters of straight A's means that she is eligible for the "Academic Excellence" award at her middle school.  One of her classes is a 9th grade Honors Algebra class!  She has worked so hard and diligently to accomplish this goal!  Way to go, Mason!

The 5th grader above is my cruiser right now, just cruising along in her last year of elementary school, doing great as always.
This boy was referred by his teacher for gifted testing in October.  I was nervous about it because there is a new testing method this year that I worried would not be good for him.  When the girls tested in first grade, they each spent several hours alone with a diagnostician who tested them one-on-one during that time.  Now, a new method is being implemented which involves a group cognitive abilities test using the Cogat test. If they scored in the top 2% in at least one of the areas of the Cogat, they then take a computerized MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) test which takes three hours, and an hour long Creativity test.  It just seemed like a lot for a first grader without the one-on-one interaction.  Finally, it is all over and we found out on Thursday that he does qualify for gifted education.  I am so glad to open this door for him.  Between the two girls, we have participated in the gifted program now for 7 years-- I love the teachers and the activities.  I love that he will be able to think outside of the box, which his teacher says is the main reason for referring him.  I so hope that he loves it like his sisters have loved it!

So, these three are some smart kids, yes, but more importantly, they are kind and thoughtful, patient, polite, loving people with a true love of life and peace.  I am thankful for that.
