Fishing at Shady Lakes!

Today my boy got to fish for his first time ever!  The whole first grade took a field trip to Shady Lakes and they each got to catch one fish.  I love the way that a simple event like this can show you new things about your child.  I was surprised to learn that he was not at all squeamish about handling flopping fish (unlike his mother) and I so enjoyed to seeing the delight that he took in the whole process.  (I did feel quite sorry for the fish, though, which is probably why I am not a fisherman.)

5th Grade D.A.R.E. Graduation!

We don't have an actual 5th grade graduation so we just let the D.A.R.E. graduation count.  How is it possible that this one of my littles is going to middle school?  Can I still call her a little?

The fifth grade class sang two rockin' songs!

Mrs. Ripley has been Hannah's enrichment teacher for the past two years and part of the year before those.  Hannah has loved being in her class and we will miss her.  Hopefully she will still be around when Dylan gets to 5th grade.

Five years of best friendship.  They will be a great team facing middle school together.

Mother's Day!

First Grade Party!

Today was the end of the year celebration for the first grade class.  We did a circus theme complete with a prize walk, face painting, a photo booth, a magician, sack races, and a parachute.  I was the photographer at the photo booth so I could not get as many pictures of Dylan and his buddies as I would have liked, but here are a few that I snuck in.  It makes me kind of sad how quickly first grade went by.  How can I make him stay little?

This girl won at the state level for her literature entry in the PTA Reflections program.  She was invited to read her entry at the state PTA convention.

Stagefright!

This little guy is a funny one.  Give him a stage when he is not supposed to be on one and he is a ham, but put him in a performance and he is close to tears.  This is the first grade music performance.  There was also a fifth grade one but poor Hannah, who had been given a speaking role, rode a bus that morning on a field trip and got so car sick that she had to leave the trip and could not make it to her performance.
